The total area of land in Wisconsin is 54,310 square miles. There are on average 98.8 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 5,363,675 people living in the state within 2,084,544 households (averaging 2.50 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 5,654,774 with an estimated 5.4% change.

The average income per person in 1999 for Wisconsin was $21,271. By 2007 the income was $36,272. The average income in each household was $52,103 in 2008. The percentage of Wisconsin residents living in poverty in 2008 was 10.5%. The total personal income for the state in 2007 was $203,084 (in millions of dollars). The average per job earnings was $41,851 in 2007.

In 2009 there were about 2,575,194 housing units within the state of Wisconsin, a change of 254,041 from 2000 (or about 10.9%).
