Washington Population, Demographics, and Statistics
The total area of land in Washington is 66,544 square miles. There are on average 88.6 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 5,894,121 people living in the state within 2,271,398 households (averaging 2.53 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 6,664,195 with an estimated 13.1% change.

The average income per person in 1999 for Washington was $22,973. By 2007 the income was $41,203. The average income in each household was $58,081 in 2008. The percentage of Washington residents living in poverty in 2008 was 11.3%. The total personal income for the state in 2007 was $265,738 (in millions of dollars). The average per job earnings was $51,138 in 2007.

In 2009 there were about 2,813,372 housing units within the state of Washington, a change of 362,287 from 2000 (or about 14.8%). The percentage of housing units that were occupied by the owner in 2000 was 64.6%. The median value of each house was about $168,300 in the state in 2000. 17,011 building permits were issued in 2009 totaling $3,185,825 (thousands of dollars) in estimated value.

The number of Washington births in the year 2006 was 86,876 while the number of deaths occuring during the same year was 46,120. Infant deaths that year numbered 407.
