The total area of land in Nebraska is 76,872 square miles. There are on average 22.3 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 1,711,263 people living in the state within 666,184 households (averaging 2.49 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 1,796,619 with an estimated 5.0% change.

The average income per person in 1999 for Nebraska was $19,613. By 2007 the income was $36,372. The average income in each household was $49,731 in 2008. The percentage of Nebraska residents living in poverty in 2008 was 10.8%. The total personal income for the state in 2007 was $64,360 (in millions of dollars).
