The total area of land in Mississippi is 46,906 square miles. There are on average 60.6 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 2,844,658 people living in the state within 1,046,434 households (averaging 2.63 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 2,951,996 with an estimated 3.8% change.
