The total area of land in Colorado is 103,717 square miles. There are on average 41.5 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 4,301,261 people living in the state within 1,658,238 households (averaging 2.53 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 5,024,748 with an estimated 16.8% change.

The average income per person in 1999 for Colorado was $24,049. By 2007 the income was $41,192. The average income in each household was $57,184 in 2008. The percentage of Colorado residents living in poverty in 2008 was 11.2%. The total personal income for the state in 2007 was $199,483 (in millions of dollars). The average per job earnings was $49,594 in 2007.

In 2009 there were about 2,167,658 housing units within the state of Colorado, a change of 359,300 from 2000 (or about 19.9%). The percentage of housing units that were occupied by the owner in 2000 was 67.3%. The median value of each house was about $166,600 in the state in 2000. 9,355 building permits were issued in 2009 totaling $2,071,136 (thousands of dollars) in estimated value.

The number of Colorado births in the year 2006 was 70,751 while the number of deaths occuring during the same year was 29,521. Infant deaths that year numbered 404.
