The total area of land in Arizona is 113,634 square miles. There are on average 45.2 people living within each square mile of the state. In 2000 there were 5,130,632 people living in the state within 1,901,327 households (averaging 2.64 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 6,595,778 with an estimated 28.6% change.

The average income per person in 1999 for Arizona was $20,275. By 2007 the income was $32,833. The average income in each household was $51,009 in 2008. The percentage of Arizona residents living in poverty in 2008 was 14.7%. The total personal income for the state in 2007 was $208,603 (in millions of dollars). The average per job earnings was $43,927 in 2007.

In 2009 there were about 2,757,366 housing units within the state of Arizona, a change of 568,192 from 2000 (or about 26.0%). The percentage of housing units that were occupied by the owner in 2000 was 68.0%. The median value of each house was about $121,300 in the state in 2000. 14,474 building permits were issued in 2009 totaling $2,736,023 (thousands of dollars) in estimated value.
