The total area of the land in Nassau County is 286.69 square miles. There are on average 4,650 people living within each square mile of the county. In 2000 there were 1,334,544 people living in the county within 447,387 households (averaging 2.93 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had increased to 1,357,429 with an estimated 1.7% change.
