The total area of the land in Erie County is 1,044 square miles. There are on average 910.2 people living within each square mile of the county. In 2000 there were 950,265 people living in the county within 380,873 households (averaging 2.41 people in each household) but by 2009 the population had decreased to 909,247 with an estimated -4.3% change.
